@Brittkelly @MsHodl @lara True. Although, I'm the kinda guy that likes to have my decentralized node, rather than fooling around with dozens of shared ones. Not that theres's anything wrong with that if that's what your into.

@MsHodl @lara Do you like your nodes small? Large? Centralized? Decentralized?

There's so many different options and preferences.

@HealthRanger What's the alternative? Voting is an ugly thing, because not playing isn't a winning move, even though the game.is rigged.

@lupyuen I think cryptographers were far too willing to promote tracing in general by coming up with "private" schemes for it. Those schemes helped legitimize the idea in general, including the versions with no privacy at all.

@alex note that some OS's don't actually respond to pings locally.

@who_knows You need to provide a citation for your claim of allowing illegal activity.

@ibz The state isn't preventing lawyers from representing Parler. The mob is.

uproxx.com/viral/parler-ceo-co

Good example of the limitations of "competition": Parler is saying no-one is willing to do business with them, with even their lawyers dropping them. I'm not surprised: the cancel culture mob would turn on anyone who was willing to do business with them.

There used to be a long tradition in law of representing clients fairly, no matter who they were. Frankly, that tradition is dying.

@mattodell not souch a guide as a one click option: marketplace.digitalocean.com/a

That's what mine is running on. The Mastodon website has decent docs too. And apparently other server software is good too.

@shinobimonkey Damn right. You should send him a DM on Twitter instead. 😂

@miket ...and in more toilet jokes: "Dunn has had such trouble finding washrooms that he’s started writing it into his contracts where possible."

@shinobimonkey @nvk if you DM me right now, my instance operator is me. :) @pete

So @miket had a shockingly good idea, shockingly good for it's normality: call the oddly named "toots", "posts".

Better than letting a five year old boy make branding decisions. 😂

@mattodell @nvk I'd suggest a VPN. :)

My email is ridiculously public, so that's not an issue for me... But could be for some.

@miket @Hodlonaut @AsILayHodlong Calling them posts is a shockingly good suggestion in it's normalcy.

Censorship resistance is expensive and inconvenient.

Do not expect to be able to easily and cheaply broadcast speech if world governments and corporations disapprove.

Prepare for worst case scenarios.
Hope for best case scenarios.
