@nvk @BTCPayServer As much as I want to agree with you... if I hadn't kept old messages and emails, I wouldn't have a career right now.
Keeping that stuff around was critical in proving that Lovecruft was lying. GPS locations too - I was very glad that I had Google location history turned on, because it made it so easy to figure out exactly where I was.
It's a double-edged sword of course: if they were the feds, they could have come up with a much better lie...
"Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin: ‘Parler Has a Right to Exist,’ Apple, Google, Amazon Denying Access to ‘Common Infrastructure’"
You'd expect Vitalik to say that, given how dependant ETH is on Amazon AWS.
'“Having to take these actions fragment the public conversation. They divide us. They limit the potential for clarification, redemption, and learning. And sets a precedent I feel is dangerous: the power an individual or corporation has over a part of the global public conversation,” Dorsey wrote on Twitter.'
See, I read that as "oh shit, the stock market hates me"
Found a golden oldie of a group of people with a lot of combined 🧠power at the Rebooting the Web of Trust Conference (Nov 9th, 2015)
Left to right: Joseph Poon, Christopher Allen, Greg Maxwell, Joseph Bonneau, Peter Todd, Pieter Wuille & Tyler Close
Their output that day: https://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/WebOfTrustInfo/rebooting-the-web-of-trust/blob/master/final-documents/smart-signatures.pdf
Are any of these guys (besides @pete) on Mastodon as well?
@panicfomo Unfortunately I don't think it's an easy thing to replicate. There are clear signs of being a "medical expert" that don't exist in other fields.
"BREAKING: Two ministers from former Italian PM #Renzi's party #ItaliaViva resigns. #Italy's government officially enter into crisis mode."
Crisis mode? Or Libertarian Party Mode? 🥳 🎉

James O'Keefe: VERITAS INVESTIGATION INTO VOTER FRAUD LEADS TO ARREST.
For those who say "nothing matters" this is for you.
For those in the news media who says there is no such thing as voter fraud and what we do is nothing more than an attempt to "undermine elections," TAKE A SEAT!

You might've heard of NYT's story on a guy who lost his bitcoins.
TLDR: the story is full of bullshit.
The poor guy was a CTO and a founder at Ripple, and has netted hundreds of millions of dollars from Ripple (that launched its own scammy crypto called XRP). Ripple is facing serious security and fraud charges by SEC, and is defending itself in the courts by bullshitting on Bitcoin.
Don't you find it coincidental that mainstream media runs this story the same time the lawsuit is going?
@francks The thing to do would be for Section 230 protections to only apply to services smaller than some size. Good if Hacker News can use those protections but YouTube is forced to adopt a common carrier model.
@nhash Looks like the photo comes from this article, which says: "The vaccine passport will be identical to the test passport, which can already be downloaded from Sundhed.dk. It looks like this." https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/penge/fly-og-festivalbranchen-jubler-dansk-vaccinepas-bliver-snart-rullet-ud
So my post was almost correct, modulo some irrelevant textual differences.
@nhash ah, yeah your right. Weird, the article makes it totally clear that they are doing vaccination passports. Probably just mixed up the document.
@francks No, the express purpose of Section 230 is to allow services to do moderation without making their legal situation worse.
Being a common carrier is the other option that exists regardless of Section 230. But that doesn't let you do moderation for content.
One thing you learn working on Bitcoin wallet software - there is no such thing as deprecated. I am still fielding support requests from people who haven't used Joinmarket in 3,4 or even 5 years sometimes.
I mean, what am I going to say, "sorry no your money is confiscated due to account inactivity" - this is not a bank 😂
@giacomozucco You couldn't get a more clear example of companies asking that regulation be used to shut down their competition: https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/city-shuts-down-home-based-food-business-after-investigation
“The city launched investigations into two complaints of food businesses operating out of people's homes after a coalition of Ottawa Indian restaurateurs raised the issue.”
