@afilini have you looked at Scuttlebutt yet?
@BitcoinAustrian New York state was threatening $1 million dollar fines for vaccinating people out of priority sequence... a sequence that would have vaccinated a 20 year old nurse over a 70 year old.
@verretor I liked projection more when movie theaters were still open.
@stephanlivera How do those people sleep at night?
Maybe they don't and they replaced Twitter Public Safety staff with a GPT-3 bot...
CDC caved and now recommends that states expand vaccination access to people 65 or over, rather than the current recommendation of prioritizing "essential" workers.
So basically, they're adopting Florida's policy. Funny how a state without much, if any, lockdown, happens to be the one with the right policies re: vaccination.
@kernelmastery ...stack lines or bitcoin? Because it looks like you want me to stack lines... 😂
@drgo point is, that outcome wasn't obvious.
@drgo "of course"
I mean, it could be both a brain defect in the sense of having harmful effects and an evolutionarily successful adaptation.
@drgo Well it'd be like left handedness with different successful strategies.
@drgo I'd make the distinction between the mechanism that allows people to believe in conspiracy theories, and the evolutionary advantage. See, blindly believing everything your social superiors tell you is obviously exploitable. So you should be willing to reject evidence. The evolution of _that_ mechanism will then also allow for belief in false conspiracy theories.
@drgo So I'd say one of the hallmarks of true conspiracy theory belief is not changing your mind when new data comes in. But that situation is unlikely to happen without person to person communication: pretty much everything a chimp knows comes from direct observation. Only humans learn things indirectly.
So maybe conspiracy theories evolved during the evolution of language.
@drgo Chimpanzees do make use of complex subterfuge and schemes in their social hierarchies. So possibly the origin of belief in conspiracy theories was taking social actions on the basis of little data.
@drgo interesting question: what is the equivalent of being a conspiracy theorist in a chimpanzee?
@LadyAnarki You know, a novel is merely one-liner after another.
