@nvk can I run an instance on a raspberry Pi? Otherwise I have no more hardware for this... anyhow have a website to post my thoughts if Twitter and Mastodon both fail.

@KevinR4v @nvk My instance is using about 1.5GB of ram, so it should run alright on a Raspberry Pi 4 with the 2GB or 4GB options. But older Raspberry Pi's probably not.

@KevinR4v @nvk Note that RPis really need good sdcards for stuff like Mastodon servers. So if you decide to try that, follow the official recommendations on what brand of SD card to get. There's special high endurance ones for applications like this. A bit more expensive. But it'll save you a lot of trouble.

@KevinR4v @nvk Also, more RAM will help with sdcard endurance by allowing more data to be cached, reducing the total # of writes. Probably not a huge improvement. But for $30 I'd do it.

@pete @KevinR4v @nvk Compatibility isn't great, but you can attach a USB3 SSD to it.

@mutatrum @KevinR4v @nvk Yup. Hence the "mostly" :) Easier to just buy a good sdcard off Amazon.

@pete @mutatrum @KevinR4v @nvk I used an SSD with my Raspberry Pi4. Is it bad practice?

@verretor @mutatrum @KevinR4v @nvk Nah, it's fine. Just more work than doing the usual thing. Also, mechanically it's kinda annoying having something hanging from the box.

@verretor @mutatrum @KevinR4v @nvk of course, I have a Raspberry Pi in a cardboard box because the GPS/RTC hat I put on it won't fit in an off the shelf box... So do whatever works for you. 😂

@pete @verretor @KevinR4v @nvk This year M.2 slots become standard on next gen SBCs, I hope. For example the RK3568, which has 2 lane PCIe 3.0. 🤞
