To all those who say Dorsey is a hostage to his crazy Twitter employees watch this (while it is still up). Dorsey is a weasel twitter.com/JamesOKeefeIII/sta

@michaelfolkson From my watching of that, it doesn't really seem different to what he publicly said in that thread (tho obv i still disagree with him).

I think he just genuinely believes he's doing good by shutting down those accounts (trump, qanon etc)

@stephanlivera I've heard from a number of people that they think Dorsey does value freedom of speech and freedom of payment and shares Bitcoin's principles but he is forced into a corner by his employees. Nope.

@michaelfolkson i guess freedom of speech to him means a different thing than it does to us

@stephanlivera I guess freedom of speech means stopping the sharing of URLs in private DMs if it paints your favored Presidential candidate in a bad light.

@michaelfolkson @stephanlivera that last bit is not supported by the video. There's no mention of political favors by him. The video suggests he wants to ban accounts because he expects them to keep inciting riots and attempt coups, which is obviously the case.

I guess he reasons that as long as he has the power to censor he feels an obligation to use it. That does not rule out that he prefers not to have the power.

@michaelfolkson @stephanlivera that said, I'm not very convinced one way or another about Jack really being against censorship. It doesn't really matter, because Twitter is a huge beast that he can't fully control. In the end its up to society - and we're chipping in a bit - to make this kind of power go away. No reason to wait for Jack or his open source efforts.

@sjors @stephanlivera I think you're gullible Sjors and you take Dorsey's words at face value. He is CEO of a multibillion dollar company. A company he is using to push an agenda. If you think he's committed to using company funds to make his Twitter stock go to zero and his personal power to zero I have a snake oil salesman to introduce you to. It is all optics. Just like his answers to Senate hearings. "We made a mistake here, we're sorry. Oh that? I don't know anything about that."

@michaelfolkson @sjors yeah it seems very fake how he constantly fake-self flagellates about "oh we've got more work to do". but then carries on censoring, shutting down in a very one sided way. way more conservatives and libertarians getting shut down than left people.

@stephanlivera @sjors It is the same playbook Zuck followed with surveillance. The do it and apologize later strategy. That was when Facebook was smaller though. I'm not entirely sure it is a great strategy when you are a multibillion dollar company and you're looking to take out half the US government. We'll see though. Dorsey deserves whatever is coming to him.
