The idea to integrate OpenTimestamps with the Internet Archive has been brought up before:
https://github.com/opentimestamps/opentimestamps.org/issues/49#issuecomment-1417647996
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/6dg3ho/comment/di2hqx9/
Was any progress ever made on this, either on timestamping files uploaded to archive.org or webpage snapshots saved to the WayBack Machine?
I also see the page hosting the old timestamps https://opentimestamps.org/internet-archive is still down after over 5 years.
@verpcr @internetarchive @brewsterkahle no progress unfortunately. It's something that needs Internet Archive cooperation to work best, and my understanding of the politics of the situation is that some people at IA refuse to have anything to do with Bitcoin (and probably myself too).
@pete @internetarchive @brewsterkahle and have a long history of expressing such strong support for it:
https://help.archive.org/help/do-you-accept-cryptocurrency/
https://blog.archive.org/2017/09/02/why-bitcoin-is-on-the-internet-archives-balance-sheet/
I don't expect setting up an OTS calendar server should be much harder than all they've done for Bitcoin in the past.
@verpcr @internetarchive @brewsterkahle I would not be surprised if that 2017 post doesn't reflect the views of everyone there. Or for that matter, more recent views.
@pete @internetarchive @brewsterkahle The resistance to Bitcoin is indeed strange when they accept donations in it: https://archive.org/donate/cryptocurrency/.
